A couple from the US claims that they have sustained eye injury after using the solar eclipse glasses that they bought from Amazon, which is why they have filed a class-action lawsuit.

Kayla Harris and Corey Payne said that they have been suffering since they used the said defective glasses. They are not just experiencing headaches but also vision impairment. The glasses were used during the eclipse that was visible coast to coast on August 21.

Amazon issued a statement on August 10 saying that they are recalling the eclipse glasses sold on their website as they are potentially hazardous.

However, according to the couple, they were not informed that Amazon recalled the glasses. The legal documents that were filed by both Payne and Harris say that the warning was already "too little and too late."

Amazon is yet to comment regarding the class-action lawsuit. As a matter of fact, they declined to give any remarks as of now. The lawsuit was filed in South Carolina's federal court last Tuesday.

The Recall

The online retailer, Amazon, claims that it has sent out tens of thousands of emails to its customers as it issued a recall for the solar eclipse glasses sold on the website. The company said that this happened because they weren’t able to verify that the products have been manufactured by a reputable company. Amazon chose not to disclose how big or small the recall was. It also did not give out a list of the affected vendors.

When Amazon issued the recall, the company did not specify any product or brand due to the fact that there were still suppliers selling high quality and legitimate eclipse glasses.

Here’s what Harris and Payne claim:

The couple claims that they made sure they wouldn’t look up to the sky directly and without the use of the glasses bought on Amazon. According to them, they were very excited to view the total solar eclipse as it was the first to cross the entire North American continent since 1918.

Just a couple of hours after they viewed the eclipse, Harris and Payne said that their eyes watered and they experienced headaches. Few days after, they noticed that they had already developed vision impairment like distorted vision and blurriness.

Special Glasses

The couple is currently seeking to represent all those who also claim that they had not received any warning from Amazon regarding the use of faulty eclipse glasses. They are also calling for the people who have suffered the same injuries as them because of the use of the said glasses.

But that’s not all.

They want Amazon to reimburse them of the medical costs as they need to know how much damage has been caused by the glasses.

Before the solar eclipse took place, experts warned everyone in the country not to look at the sun directly.

Scientists from NASA even warned the entire country to not use regular sunglasses and homemade filters as they would allow the transmission of more sunlight than our eyes can handle.
