Many dog owners know that fireworks scare dogs, so it’s no wonder fireworks celebrations during the 4th of July or New Year’s Eve are not good days to be a dog. And to be honest, it’s completely understandable. The sound of explosions and the colorful displays may look pretty for us, but for them it looks like the sky is literally falling apart.

Just to show you how bad this problem is, research proves that vet visits tend to spike substantially during such holidays - dogs, in particular, are very susceptible to this.

Due to their sensitive hearing, the explosive sound of fireworks has a huge effect on them. In the process of running and hiding, they may hurt themselves or never come back. In addition to this, they may end up being hit by a car or getting lost in the middle of nowhere. For anyone who loves their dog, these situations can be quite scary and depressing.

However, for this one little town in Italy, being a dog just got a bit easier.

In order to reduce the anxiety fireworks caused on dogs and other animals in the town, a law was passed that forces all fireworks displays to be completely silent.

The local government of Collecchio said the law is designed to reduce the effects that loud noises cause on animals. The law is not just meant just for household pets, as it helps wild animals too.

But where do you get silent fireworks? Well, there is a company that makes them: it’s called Setti Fireworks and it can customize each of the fireworks based on the event taking place.

Although for most people the explosions are always part of the celebratory feel that is associated with fireworks displays, for a pet owner it’s a nightmare.

If you think this is an overreaction, experts say that loud noises can actually cause heart problems, nausea and panic attacks on dogs - not to mention causing stress on children, especially babies.

Most pet lovers will want their best friend to be having just as much fun as they’re having, and it’s not fun at all to look at them trembling in terror from explosions in the sky.

The last thing you want is to give up spending quality time with friends and family during holidays to rush the dog to the vet. Why does it have to be a party just for humans? If dogs and cats are welcomed too, it’s only fair to make sure they have just as much fun.

The law by the town of Collecchio could mark a healthy start towards silent fireworks in other animal-friendly towns and cities. If that will happen soon or not only time will tell, but let’s face it, a lot of us humans are just as averse to loud explosions as dogs are. Just the colorful lights are more than enough.
