Could McDonald’s fries have the cure for baldness? Source: Health Thorough Fare

Baldness has been very common in the last few years. You don’t even have to be old to go bald. There are so many cases of people as young as 30 going bald. Because this is a widespread problem, there are many solutions available. If you want to find a cure for your baldness, you’d probably have several options. The big question, however, is if these solutions really work? It all depends on your experience with various products. Nonetheless, very few have the ability to make your hair grow back naturally but this could change soon.

A new study has found that McDonald’s French fries could actually make your hair grow back. Sounds like the joke of the year but it’s actually true. A study from the Yokohama National University showed that a chemical found in McDonald’s fries could actually help stimulate the growth of hair in bald men.

The university took some dimethylpolysiloxane which is a silicone used at McDonald’s to prevent cooking oil from frothing. The chemical was then used to produce “hair follicle germs” in lab mice that were part of the experiment. Hair follicle germs or HFG are unique cells in humans that are responsible for the development of hair follicle. Most of the researches that have been done on hair loss have largely focused on HFG. The assumption is that if there can be a solution to stimulate HFG cell action then we may start to see hair growing back in bald people.

When the silicone used in McDonald’s fries was applied to mice’s HFG cells, the results were quite astonishing. The study showed that the application of this chemical actually led to the growth of new hair. The mice that were used in this study did not have hair. However, they still had the hair follicle germs on their back. The team of researchers at the Yokohama University was looking for ways to stimulate action on the HFG cells so that hair could grow back. When the silicone used by McDonald’s was applied to the HFG cells on the mice’s backs, there was hair growth.

The study was later published in the Biomaterials journal. Early indications show that the application of the silicone could actually lead to hair growth in humans. But there are still a few details that need to be studied. Getting back your lost hair could soon be possible, but it will take more than just filling up on McDonald’s fries.

And before you start rubbing the fries on your head, the study didn’t specify how the silicone was applied to the mice. But you can give it a go and see what happens. On a serious note though, there’s no doubt that the discovery could represent a major leap in dealing with baldness and while there are many solutions out there, this one could prove to be the most effective yet.
