2018 is supposed to be a big year for Samsung. The South Korean smartphone giant is expected to launch the Galaxy S9, a revolutionary smartphone that is meant to shake the market. Reports released so far for the smartphone have all been positive. But sadly, we have already received the first bit of bad news. The source is coming from ETNews which is usually fairly reliable.

There are two disappointing leaks that will somewhat deflate most people who are looking forward to the S9’s release. It is emerging that the Galaxy S9 will not be integrating the fingerprint reader into the display. The technology is not yet ready for mass production so it probably won’t be ready in time for the S9 launch.

The fingerprint reader will be mounted on the phone’s rear again, maybe in a more central position. However, the fact that the integration of the in-screen fingerprint reader was a feature that was expected since the release of the Galaxy S8 makes this news even more disappointing.

Samsung users were hoping that the integration would be ready for the S9 but it’s still the same old story.

If we are being fair though, it is clear that Samsung has put in the work on this technology. We don’t know why it’s not ready yet but we will hopefully see it in the Galaxy Note 9. It’s not guaranteed, but we will keep our fingers crossed.

The second bit of sad news is a little less surprising. The Galaxy S9 won’t have the Face ID 3D facial recognition system. This feature is already available on the iPhone X. Reports indicate that Samsung will instead continue to combine the facial recognition and iris sensor with the use of the front camera. It’s difficult to say how Samsung fans will react to this news.

But it’s not all bad news. Reports indicated that Samsung may release the Galaxy S9 sooner than planned. Mass production is expected to start in January. The phone might hit the market early and looking at some of the features that the S9 will have, we strongly believe that the smartphone will be a solid option to go for.

Although it would have been nice to see Samsung add the in-screen fingerprint reader, it’s still not a big issue for most people. Besides, we have heard rumors that Samsung will also produce an all-new Galaxy S9 Mini that will be sold alongside the standard S9. This could attract another new market for the Korean smartphone maker.

Nonetheless, we will have to wait and see whether more reports regarding the S9 will leak before its launch. 2018 is definitely going to be a big year for Samsung. Whether you are an Samsung fan or not, there is no doubt that this is a smartphone worth looking forward to.
