Scarlett Johansson is ranked at the top of the Forbes’ annual list of the highest paid actresses. She surpassed Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston who took the second and third place respectively. In 2017 the list was topped by Emma Stone. According to Forbes, Stone raked in $26 million. But Scarlett Johansson is almost doubling this figure. The Forbes report says that the actress was paid little over $40 million this year for her roles in several movies.
Johansson has been cast in a number of hit Marvel movies and this could explain why her payday has grown massively. The Avengers films, in particular, have been mentioned as the top sources of Scarlett Johansson’s new ranking as the highest paid actress in the movie and show business.
The Avengers has been a popular franchise and based on previous experiences, lead roles in these movies tend to be paid huge money. In addition to this, Scarlett Johansson has been cast as a lead role in an upcoming 2019 movie which will feature the Black Widow. Reports indicate that Johansson will be paid very well for this role too.
In 2017, Scarlett Johansson featured in two notable movies, Rough Night and Ghost in the Shell. Critical acclaim for the movies was mixed and Johansson found herself in the middle of a growing fan backlash after she played a Japanese character in one of the movies. But 2018 has been different. Scarlett Johansson has featured already in Avengers: Infinity War and in Isle of Dogs.

The top five list was completed with Jennifer Lawrence and Reese Witherspoon. A big portion of Witherspoon’s payday came from her starring role in Big Little Lies. Lawrence, on the other hand, had a starring role in the Red Sparrow. This could explain why she came through fourth in the list. There are other actresses too that are indeed worth a mention. Cate Blanchett is a worthy contender in the top 10 raking in $12.5 million this year. Gal Gadot, the starring actress behind Wonder Woman also features in the top 10 list with a total payday of $10 million this year.
The Forbes list comes out each year and it ranks Hollywood stars in terms of the revenue they have brought in over a 12 month period. The list keeps changing all the time. This is because many actors and actresses are cast in different movies each year and the amount of money they make mostly depends on the profile and success of the movies.
