So, for all of you folks who thought coconut wasn’t going anywhere, you were right! The product dubbed the Toasted Coconut Cold Brew will start selling in stores nationwide from April 4 albeit it will be for a limited time only. The product follows the Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato and was created by Starbuck’s Nariño 70 Cold Brew. So what should you expect from the new coconut drink? Well, one thing to remember is that it’s slightly sweeter due to a light addition of toasted Coconut syrup together with an additional slap of coconut milk. The product is expected to be trendy, and why not? For those who have already tried mixing coffee up with some splash of coconut milk, you will agree that the two really jive well. The milk simply compliments the chocolate notes on the coffee with its all natural sweetness.

Come to think about it, the summer drink is basically a blend of two very popular trendy drinks – cold brew coffee and the coconut milk. Both these products have been in the market for quite some years. The cold brew coffee takes a non-traditional approach when it comes to making. It is made in small amounts where beans are steeped in the water for nearly 20 hours. There is no heat applied whatsoever. For many coffee purists, that is how you should drink coffee. But of course, the fact that Starbucks has seen the need to blend it with coconut milk just shows you that cold brew coffee is widening its appeal. During the last five years alone, sales for cold brew coffee rose 300%, an unprecedented growth rate indeed. So, why add the coconut milk? As it seems, the cold brew coffee is in itself a very successful product.

Well, a statement released by Starbucks said that the idea of bringing in coconut milk came from the Dominican Republic. The chain said that it was inspired by a Dominican popular coconut candy called Jalao and thought it would be great to bring the coconut flavor into their summer beverage. There is no doubt that Starbucks has created amazing products before. Most of you who have already been long time customers will remember the Mocha Coconut Frappuccino. The product has been available since 2002 and has also made limited runs on the menu, most notably back in 2015.

So, that is just an example of how Starbucks has invented and reinvented beverages to fit the changing dynamics. Whether their all new Toasted Coconut cold brew will be successful or not remains to be seen but based on the growth path other products from the chain have taken, it will not be a surprise if the new drink becomes very popular. Besides, the cold brew coffee is already a popular choice with a strong customer base. Adding the coconut into the mix will help appeal to a wider market in the US. Either way, the drink has already psyched us up for summer!
