The second season of the HBO TV show Westworld finally premiered last week and the first episode offered us the twists and turns we’d hoped for. Watching the show has often been described as peeling an onion. The intriguing plot and storyline are not just complex but mysterious and captivating too. The second episode of season two laid the foundation for everything we should expect from the show. To be honest, it was too much to take in but nonetheless very exciting.

The initial mention of The Door was perhaps one of the “spoiler” moments in the first episode. But the show still has so much to offer. So, what’s The Door? The Door is, in fact, part of a new game that will be revealed in season two. The game is just for the Man in Black. The second episode is also somewhat revealing but what we loved most about it was the way the show creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan leaned into the backstory of the “Park.”

The name of the initial “Park” project is revealed in this episode. A backstory of how the park was pitched to investors and when this was done has also been included. Many fans who have carefully followed the HBO show have always demanded detail-rich mythology, and it looks like the creators have listened.

The first season of Westworld had already established that the Delos board of directors will designate the “Park” to serve a greater function. It was supposed to go beyond the adults-only Wild West themed park. Well, this greater purpose was revealed in the second episode of season two and in fact, there’s a familiar character behind all this.

The second episode appears to bring out one simple yet intriguing fact. The backstory that has been revealed about the park is already tied to the backstory of the Man in Black. There’s a scene in the episode where William is seen pitching Delos the potential that he sees in the park. This is an early indication that Williams could be the “Titan of Industry.”

William’s first trip to Westworld brings out his darker and truer self. The man who emerges from Westworld is different. He has no problem using the Park for the most cynical purposes. This sets the events towards a path of the unknown, something that many fans will really enjoy. The true purpose of the park appears to also raise a number of plot twists that will need to be addressed later in the show.

For example, we now know that Delos has used the parks to collect data on the visitors. What’s the purpose of this data collection? How has it been used? What will happen if the public finds out?

Well, there’s no doubt that there’s so much to catch up on. This is just a taste of what Westworld could be in the second season and we are really looking forward to every single episode.
